 Important information regarding coaching for girls

 
   

Starting in October 2010 and running through to late spring 2011, the County Golf Partnership Golf Academy will be running coaching courses at 5 venues throughout the county. These courses will take the place of the girls development squads. I can recommend the courses. In order to be involved, you need to attend one of the free talent days being held on Sept 11th and 12th.

Coaching Development Squads for 2010/11. These are to be run by the County Golf Academy. For details of how to become involved -go to Coaching.

The County Squad, a new Promising Players Squad and a Young Players Squad will continue to be run by  Mike & Richard through Helen.

Imogen Huxley (RutlandCounty) won the Under 13 Gross at the Nottinghamshire Girls Open with a score of 82.

Evie Carter has set a course record 75 at Breedon Priory.

Cosby duo Katie Holder & Linda Orton win the Generation Pairs on 19th July at Cosby. -go to Results (photos).

Alice Watson (Park Hill) retained the County Girls Championships at Cosby GC on 27th June.  Runner Up was Bethany Varnham Fisher (Lingdale). Nett Champion was Elizabeth Prior ( KIrby Muxloe). The 9 Hole Championships was won by Claire Keogh (Kibworth.  -  For full results - go to Results.

Four Counties Championships 3.6.10. We had consistent scores on the day with most players on or around their handicaps. Thanks to all those who played. Zoe North 76 gross and Alice Watson 78 gross had 2nd best gross team scores. For full results  - Go to Competitions.

Girls at the Ladies County Championships - 7th - 8th May. Seven girls took part in the stroke play first  day of the Championships.  Best result of the day was Beth Varnham Fisher's 85, 80 which left her with a nett  145 to win the County Nett Prize. Beth (Lingdale GC)  just missed out on qualifying for the final 8 match play: she finished in 9th place and was the top qualifier for the Russell Trophy for the next 8 players.

Also qualifying for the Russell Trophy were Zoe North (KIlworth Springs GC)-  80,87,  and Florence King (Forest Hill GC) with 91,82. Florence won the host club prize for the best afternoon gross not winning another prize.

All three girls were knocked out in the quarter finals played on the Saturday in difficult wet and windy conditions against more experienced players.

Well done to ALL the girls who took part. The experience will have been invaluable for you and congratulations on the way you conducted yourselves in the competition.

The new County Champion is Caz Walley who was junior girls captain in 2004. Well done Caz!!

Imogen Huxley (aged 13) set a course record 74 at Rutland County GC to win their Spring Meeting on 17th April. What a great way to start the season.  Imogen was part of the County Birdie Squad who had five days of intensive coaching at Forest Hill over the winter.

Success for Girls County Teams over Easter Holidays

Two wins & a draw over three consecutive days were  fine results for the County Girls Squad. Twenty different girls played during that time gaining valuable match experience.  There were county debuts for Madeleine Reed , Laura Taylor and Ellie York.

 The results were as follows:-

Wed. 7th April . Ladies 2nds +Girls v County Veteran  (Kilworth Springs) - Won 6 1/2  -                                                                                                                                                     1 1/2

Thurs. 8th April v Nottinghamshire (Belton Park).   A Team Draw 3-3. B Team lost 2-1

Friday 9th April v County Boys (Breedon Priory).  Won 5-3.

Congratulations to Kate Frankham who was a member of Lutterworth's  winning team at the British Heart Foundation Championships held on 7th April at Cosby GC. The team of three now represent Leicestershire at Alwoodley GC (near Leeds) on 9th July, where they will compete against  22 other teams from around the country.

  February Half Term Coaching Sessions well attended by  35 girls. Tuesday saw 17 girls undertake a short game skills challenge at Kilworth Springs and on Wednesday 16 girls honed their course management with a Texas Scramble at Forest Hill.

Gee Won Park (Glen Gorse) has won the inaugural County Junior Opens' Order of Merit. Kate Frankham (Lutterworth is runner up. For final table of results - go to Results.

Kym Larratt passes on tips to the county squad. On 10th November the county squad  was privileged to have Kym, a former County Junior, answer questions, demonstrate shots and give advice on anything and everything to do with golf. The feedback from both the girls and Kym has been very positive. Kym has represented England this year and had some outstanding competition results. Thanks Kym for a great session.

Rebecca Hovell (Glen Gorse) won the British Colleges Sports East Midlands Qualifier at Morley Hayes on 7.10.09. Rebecca will now go on to play in the final based at Loughborough University next March. Well done Rebecca.

Zoe North is announced as  County Girls' Captain for 2010. Zoe has been junior captain at Kilworth Springs this year and has lead them to become the Leics & Rutland Junior Club Champions. Let's hope she can pass on that winning mentality to the County Girls Team!!   Well done Zoe and good luck for next year - you've got a great team supporting you.

Congratulations to Emily Blount (Kibworth) & Aleisha Macdonald (Hinckley) on becoming their  Ladies Club Champions for 2009.

Gee Won Park leads the Junior Opens Order of Merit. With only one event left (Forest Hill at half term) Gee Won (Glen Gorse GC) is in first place with Kate Frankham (Lutterworth) close on her heels. Cosby's Katie Holder is in 3rd place.     For full list of placings   -   go to Results.

Celeste's charity raffle at her Captain's Day in memory of her uncle, raised £320 for Myeloma UK. For a copy of the thank you letter received by Celeste from the charity and a list of prize winners, go to news. Also Celeste and her family pass on a big thank you to all the people who bought tickets over the summer and donated prizes. One of the signed shirts was won by Zoe North and lots of other girls won prizes as well.

 Annie Jameson (Forest Hill), Ellie York (Forest Hill) and Grace Smith (Cosby) were the Flag 50 Series Group winners. For more details  go to Flag 50.

Madeleine Reed (Willesley Park) won Celeste's Captains Day, with Georgia Hubbard (Cosby) winner of the 9 hole competition. For more details  go to results.

Bethany Varnham Fisher won the Midland Girls Challenge at Burghley Park GC on Wed 19th August scoring 83 12  71. All off our players played really well and were in the prizes. For full Leicestershire results - go to Results.

Glen Gorse's Sally Chapman (just out of Juniors) and Harriet Hewitt took 1st & 2nd place in the inter county Goodyear Cup at Kirby Muxloe.  They both scored a nett 70 (gross 81 & 80) to win the singles medal ladies competition, with Sally winning on countback. They were competing against ladies from Leics, Northants and Warks.

Florence King pulled off a double win in Forest Hill's Ladies Club Championships. Her first win was in the Nett Championship over 18 holes and a week later she won the Gross Championships over 36 holes.

Alice Watson (Park Hill) finished 5th in the English Schools Under 16 Championships.

Amy Taylor (Hinckley) won the Nett Trophy at the Lincolnshire Girls Open with an 82 -15 - 67. Bethany Varnham Fisher (Lingdale)was 3rd  nett with 82 -14 -68. Kate Frankham (Lutterworth) won the prize for best nett back nine.

Alice Watson (Park Hill) wins the County Girls Championships in a very closely fought competition with just one shot between the top four. For full results, report and photos go to Results.

Catherine Smith scores an albatross! Catherine was playing in a ladies scratch league match at her home club Melton Mowbray v Forest Hill when she scored the 2 on the par 5, 8th hole, ( 411yards ).

 Imogen Huxley (only just turned twelve), won the Ladies Club Championships at Rutland County GC with a gross 84 at the weekend. Well done Imogen.

Alice Watson scored a course record 68 gross to win Park Hill's Professionals' Day competition recently. Her round consisted of 7 birdies, 9 pars and 2 bogies. This reduces Alice's handicap to 5. A great round Alice  - well done !!

Florence King finished tied 6th in the Midland Schools Championships at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club on 29th May. Florence scored 76, 82.

Kate Frankham (Lutterworth) won the  Nett Trophy at the Four Counties Competition at Woodhall Spa on 17th May. The Nett B Team of Kate, Amy Taylor (Hinckley) & Imogen Huxley ( Rutland County) also won the 2nd Nett Team prize. For full results go to Results.

Florence King ( Forest Hill) finished 6th in the Ladies County Championships stroke play and qualified for the match play stages. The championships were played at Luffenham Heath in difficult windy conditions. Florence lost in the quarter finals, 2 and 1 to eventual winner Jamie Leigh Voss. Florence also won a prize for reaching the quarter finals.This was a great effort by Florence and good experience playing with the Ladies County Squad players. Well done!

County Girls suffer a heavy defeat to Nottinghamshire despite a sterling effort by all the players. For match report and results - go to Results.

A record twenty girls represent the county in the annual Boys v Girls match at Beedles Lake GC. For a match report and full results - go to Results

County 2nds / County Girls Easter 4BBB Competition held at Willesley Park GC on 8th April was won by Helen Summ (Willesley Park) & Amy Taylor (Hinckley) with 41 points. This is the first time this event has been held and all agreed that it was a great success. We hope to make it an annual event.  Go to Results.

 Girls become Club Junior Captains for 2009. Congratulations to Catherine Smith who takes over as Junior Captain at Melton Mowbray Golf Club to Florence King  at Forest Hill  and to Zoe North at Kilworth Springs . Good luck to you all and may you have an enjoyable and successful year.

Emily Blount has been invited to be Vice-Captain of the Kibworth junior section and Rebecca Mortimer of Charnwood Forest. so they have next year to look forward to as Captain.
