County Birdie Squad draws to a close.
Sunday March 7th was
the last session for the six girls involved in the five days
intensive course held at Forest Hill GC over the winter months. They all said how
much they had learnt and how much they had enjoyed the course.
Thanks to Richard, Rachel, Helen & Pete for all their hard
work and to the girls for making the most of a great opportunity
to improve their golf.

The girls together with Helen, Pete Thorpe (County Development
Officer), Richard Hughes (coach) and Rachel Burr
(physiotherapist) at Forest Hill GC.
February Half Term Coaching Sessions well attended
by 35 girls. Tuesday saw
17 girls undertake a short game skills challenge at Kilworth
Springs and on Wednesday 16 girls honed their course management
with a Texas Scramble at Forest Hill.
Kym Larratt, a
Leicestershire Junior player as recently as 2005 and member of Kibworth GC, has
qualified for the full Ladies European Tour in 2010.

Gee Won Park (Glen Gorse) has won the inaugural County Junior
Opens' Order of Merit.
Kate Frankham (Lutterworth
is runner up. For final table of results - go to Results.
Kym Larratt passes on tips to the county squad.
On 10th November the
county squad was privileged to have Kym, a former County
Junior, answer questions, demonstrate shots and give advice on
anything and everything to do with golf. The feedback from both
the girls and Kym has been very positive. Kym has represented
England this year and had some outstanding competition results.

Rebecca Hovell (Glen Gorse) won the British Colleges Sports East
Midlands Qualifier
at Morley Hayes on 7.10.09. Rebecca will now go on to play in
the final based at Loughborough University next March. Well done
Rebecca.
Zoe North is announced as County Girls' Captain for 2010.
Zoe has been junior captain at Kilworth Springs this year and
has lead them to become the Leics & Rutland Junior Club
Champions. Let's hope she can pass on that winning mentality to
the County Girls Team!! Well done Zoe and good luck
for next year - you've got a great team supporting you.
Congratulations to Emily Blount (Kibworth) & Aleisha Macdonald
(Hinckley) on becoming their Ladies Club Champions for
2009.
Gee Won Park leads the Junior Opens Order of Merit.
With only
one event left (Forest Hill at half term) Gee Won (Glen Gorse
GC) is in first place with Kate Frankham (Lutterworth) close on
her heels. Cosby's Katie Holder is in 3rd place.

Celeste's charity raffle at her Captain's Day in memory of her
uncle, raised £320 for Myeloma UK.

news. Also Celeste and her family pass on a big thank you to all
the people who bought tickets over the summer and donated
prizes. One of the signed shirts was won by Zoe North and lots
of other girls won prizes as well.
Leicestershire Girls lost to Warwickshire Girls at Hinckley GC
on 6th September.

Evie Carter ( Breedon Priory) won the Stableford Series with
Elizabeth Prior (Kirby Muxloe ) runner up and Amy Taylor
(Hinckley) 3rd.

Madeleine Reed (Willesley Park) won Celeste's Captains Day,
with Georgia Hubbard (Cosby) winner of the 9 hole competition.

Bethany Varnham Fisher won the Midland Girls Challenge
at Burghley
Park GC on Wed 19th August scoring 83 12 71. All off our
players played really well and were in the prizes. For full

Glen Gorse's Sally Chapman (just out of Juniors) and Harriet
Hewitt took 1st & 2nd place in the inter county Goodyear Cup at
Kirby Muxloe.
They both scored a
nett 70 (gross 81 & 80) to win the singles medal ladies
competition, with Sally winning on countback. They were
competing against ladies from Leics, Northants and Warks.
Florence King pulled off a double win in Forest Hill's Ladies
Club Championships.
Her first win was in
the Nett Championship over 18 holes and a week later she won the
Gross Championships over 36 holes.

Alice Watson (Park Hill) finished 5th in the English Schools
Under 16 Championships.
Amy Taylor (Hinckley) won the Nett Trophy at the Lincolnshire
Girls Open
with an 82 -15 - 67.
Bethany Varnham Fisher (Lingdale)was 3rd nett with 82 -14
-68. Kate Frankham (Lutterworth) won the prize for best nett back
nine.

Alice Watson (Park Hill) wins the County Girls Championships
in a very
closely fought competition with just one shot between the top

Catherine Smith scores an albatross!
Catherine was playing in a ladies scratch league match at her
home club Melton Mowbray v Forest Hill when she scored the 2 on
the par 5, 8th hole, ( 411yards ).
Celeste launches
Captain's Charity raffle.
Celeste is running a
raffle to raise money for
Myeloma UK.
Myeloma is bone marrow cancer and Celeste's uncle recently died
from the illness. The first prize is a shirt signed by the
Ladies European Tour players. Tickets priced £2 will be on
sale at girls' events throughout the summer starting
with the Girls' Championships at Kirby Muxloe. If you would like
to donate a prize or sell tickets, please email Celeste at
anitacurrie@tiscali.co.uk. This is a very worthwhile project
and I hope you will all support Celeste.
Imogen Huxley
(only just turned twelve), won the Ladies Club Championships at Rutland
County GC with a gross 84 at the weekend.
Well done
Imogen.
Alice Watson
scored a course record 68 gross to win Park Hill's
Professionals' Day competition recently.
Her round consisted
of 7 birdies, 9 pars and 2 bogies. This reduces Alice's handicap
to 5. A great round Alice - well done !!
Florence King
finished tied 6th in the Midland Schools Championships
at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club on 29th May. Florence scored 76, 82.
Kate Frankham (Lutterworth)
won the Nett Trophy at the Four Counties Competition
at Woodhall Spa on 17th May. The Nett B Team of Kate, Amy Taylor
(Hinckley) & Imogen Huxley ( Rutland County) also won the 2nd

Florence King (
Forest Hill) finished 6th in the Ladies County Championships
stroke play and qualified for the match play stages.
The championships
were played at Luffenham Heath in difficult windy conditions.
Florence lost in the quarter finals, 2 and 1 to eventual winner
Jamie Leigh Voss. Florence also won a prize for reaching the
quarter finals.This was a great effort by Florence and good
experience playing with the Ladies County Squad players. Well
done!

suffer a heavy defeat to Nottinghamshire despite a sterling
effort by all the players.

County Girls Easter 4BBB Competition
held at Willesley
Park GC on 8th April was won by Helen Summ (Willesley Park) &
Amy Taylor (Hinckley) with 41 points. This is the first time
this event has been held and all agreed that it was a great
success. We hope to make it an annual event. Go to
