The County Golf
Partnership Academy Programme will be taking the place of the
girls development squads for 2010-11. To be a part of it, please
try & attend the talent day . Book your place by phoning Pete
Thorpe (see below).
L&RLCGA is
supporting this programme.
It
is an exciting time in Leicestershire and Rutland for young
golfers of all abilities. From September, all golfers of any
ability will have the chance to try out to become part of
Leicestershire and Rutland's brand new County Academy Program.
This program will give golfers aged between 9-15 years old who
show potential to improve in golf the chance to gain access to
high quality coaching over a sustained period of time designed
to help them reach their full potential. The key aim of the
Academy is to get more young golfers to the required standard to
play for the county. A strong link has been developed with the
current County squads and Academy players will get chances to
compete against County teams.
The Academy program is a long term athlete development program
and the coaches involved will be working to make every golfer in
the program the very best they can be. The players involved will
all get 18 hours of coaching with their Academy coach as part of
a development squad. Each player will be working to a
specifically tailored program of improvement/development.
Further to this, the Coaches will also be in contact regularly
with the players to ensure time between the sessions is well
spent.
This program will work to ensure players are directed back into
their own clubs coaching systems and this program is not about
stealing players from your own junior systems, quite the
contrary, it is about improving the county wide pool of
resources and a creating a clearer, more coherent pathway, into
high quality competitive golf. Another important factor of this
program is to help clubs to retain players within their
membership. The program will be heavily focused on getting
players working on their games back at their own clubs (or
directing them to local clubs if they do not already have a
club) in order to ensure they can practice and develop what they
have been taught.
All this starts with two assessment days where any child aged
9-15 can come along and be assessed by the academy coaching
team. From these days the development squads will be filled and
the academies will start. The assessment days are completely
free to all.

County Birdie Squad draws to a close.
Sunday March 7th was
the last session for the six girls involved in the five days
intensive course held at Forest Hill GC over the winter months. They all said how
much they had learnt and how much they had enjoyed the course.
Thanks to Richard, Rachel, Helen & Pete for all their hard
work and to the girls for making the most of a great opportunity
to improve their golf.

The girls together with Helen, Pete Thorpe (County Development
Officer), Richard Hughes (coach) and Rachel Burr
(physiotherapist) at Forest Hill GC.
