English Girls Championships 26-29th July 2010
U18's at Seacroft GC, U15's & U13's at Market Rasen GC
Report form CJO Helen 30.7.10
Just
back from Sunny Skeggy with aching legs but a great sense of pride in “our
girls”.
Highlight was about half way through day one being at the top of the leader
boards at both the U18 – Evie Carter 76 (css 75) and U 15’s Amy Taylor 76 –
what a start. At the end of day one we had 4 of our 5 on the first sheet (top
40) of the U 18’s field of 132.
By the
end of day two Evie (76,81) & Flo(79,81) made the cut (top 40) on 157 &
160 (par 146) .
Zoe
just missed the cut on 163. Alice had a 79 1st round, but 90 2nd.
Harriet kept cheerful with 88,90.
On day 3
with 36 holes it was tough. Evie 81,82 finished 35th & Flo 87,79 –
39th..
There
are 75 bunkers at Seacroft, at least half of them fairway bunkers with steep
sides– not easy !
I was
really proud of them all - they supported each other to the end – texts flying
everywhere.
Beth's dog Dillon at
the English Girls U15's - oh and Gee won, Beth & Kate as well!
Over
at Market Rasen (U15’s & U13’s), they were all competing for the first time.
Amy was
the star on day 1 shooting 76 (off 11 h’cap!) par 73. Beth shot 82. Day 2 Beth
scored an equally good 76 & Amy 85 – both made the cut.
Day 3
proved a day to far and their inexperience at this sort of competition caught
up with them. Amy 87,86 & Beth 92,90, finishing 34th & 37th
respectively.
Gee won
( a late replacement) 90,82 & Kate Frankham 90,86 performed well and will have
learnt a lot from the experience. They will come back stronger & knowing
what to expect next year.
In the U 13’s Imogen Huxley
on her first visit (hopefully of many) scored 97, 91.

What a
great day's golf. Very hot weather a challenging course and some outstanding play all
added up to make the Girls' Championships a very enjoyable day.
Alice Watson Park Hill retained
her title with a 79 , winning by one shot from Bethany Varnham Fisher (Lingdale).
Nett
Champion was Elizabeth Prior (Kirby Muxloe) nett 64. Under 15
Champion was Gee Won Park (Glen Gorse) and Under 13 Champion Briony Allen (Oadby).
The young
players in the 9 Hole Championships all rose to the occasion with the winner
being Claire Keogh (Kibworth).
The
sportsmanship and etiquette displayed by the girls throughout the day was a
credit to themselves and the county.
Thanks
must go to Cosby GC for making us so welcome on the day and to our Sponsors,
Starbuck Plumbing and Heating Engineers from Burbage. Nick Ecob from Starbucks
spent the whole day at the Championships and was really impressed with what he
saw.

computer, and to Ann Higgins who ran the 9 Hole Competition. Thanks also to all
the helpers from Cosby who scored for the 9 hole competitors and to

Leicestershire & Rutland LCGA Girls' Championships

What a
great day's golf. Perfect weather, a good course and some outstanding play all
added up to make the Girls' Championships a very enjoyable day.
There was
a really tight finish with the champion being decided on the final hole. Only
one shot split the top four places, with Alice Watson (Park Hill) taking the
title from Florence King (Forest Hill) on count back with both players finishing
with 77. 3rd & 4th place were also decided on count back with both players on 78
with Celeste Currie (Kibworth) winning out over Jamie Leigh Voss (Kirby Muxloe).
It was
not just the top players who played good golf, the standard throughout the field
was high, with 12 girls breaking 90.
Nett
Champion was Gee Won Park (Glen Gorse) in her first big competition. Under 13
Champion was Imogen Huxley who recently became Ladies Club Champion at Rutland
County.
Harriet
Hewitt (Glen Gorse) and Emily Blount (Kibworth) took the Under 15 Best Gross and
Best Nett respectively
The young
players in the 9 Hole Championships all rose to the occasion with the winner
being Laura Taylor (Willesley Park) from Ellie York (Forest Hill).
The
sportsmanship and etiquette displayed by the girls throughout the day was a
credit to themselves and the county.

must go to Kirby Muxloe for making us so welcome on the day and to our Sponsors,
Starbuck Plumbing and Heating Engineers from Burbage. Nick Ecob from Starbucks
spent the whole day at the Championships and was really impressed with what he
saw.

must also go to Anne Higgins on the desk, to Dorothy Jones, starting and on the
computer, and to County President Carole Bailey and Helena Woodward for walking
with the 9 hole competitors. Helena also managed the entries.

Leicestershire were unlucky to lose three of their top four girls
within 24 hours of the match due to circumstances beyond our
control. Nevertheless, those girls who came in at short notice and
those who had to move up a couple of places in the team all played
their hearts out and need not be discouraged at losing to a very
strong Nottinghamshire team.

Twenty girls in one match is a record for the girls, all of whom put up a hard fight
with half of the matches going to the 18th hole. How about the white
tees next year boys ?!!!
The day was vey enjoyable and good experience for all the players. Seven
girls made their debut for the county and we were made very welcome by the
county boys.

This was the first time we have held
this event and all agreed that it was very enjoyable. It was also a good
way for the ladies in the 2nd Team to get to know the girls and vice versa.
Thanks to Willesley Park for hosting the event and to Karen Bonser and Carole
Bailey for organising it. We hope to make it an annual event.
